The hinge joints facilitate the inherent instability of the structure. You can |
|||||||
| attach parts of the model you want to be moveable to the plates surrounding | |||||||
|
the pistons. The parts will then move with a hinging or back and forth |
|||||||
|
movement as the pistons move in and out. Such redirection of movement |
|||||||
| is an essential feature of many mechanisms. It allows one type of motion | |||||||
| to be converted into another, more useful form. For example in gasoline | |||||||
| engines the up and down movement of the pistons is converted into the | |||||||
| rotation of the drive shaft by the connecting rods and crankshaft. | |||||||
