The hinge
joints facilitate the inherent instability of the structure. You can |
attach parts of the model you want to be moveable to the plates
surrounding |
the pistons. The parts will then move with a hinging or back and forth |
movement
as the pistons move in and out. Such redirection of movement |
is an essential feature of
many mechanisms. It allows one type of motion |
to be converted into
another, more useful form. For example in gasoline |
engines the up and down
movement of the pistons is converted into the |
rotation of the drive
shaft by the connecting rods and crankshaft. |
